Jesus Begins His Ministry

14 ^tNow after John was ^uarrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is ^vat hand;¹ repent and believe in the gospel.”

33 Be on guard, ^jkeep awake.¹ For you do not know when the time will come.

11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be ^ffervent in spirit,¹ serve the Lord. 12 ^gRejoice in hope, ^hbe patient in tribulation, ⁱbe constant in prayer.

9 And ^dlet us not grow weary ^eof doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not ^fgive up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, ^glet us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the ^hhousehold of faith.

2 ^vBear one another’s burdens, ^wand so fulfill the ^xlaw of Christ.

Qualifications for Overseers

1 ^bThe saying is trustworthy: ^cIf anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Therefore an ^doverseer¹ must be above reproach, ^ethe husband of one wife,² sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must ^fmanage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, ^ghow will he care for God’s church?

3 ^dBlessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, ^efor the time is ^fnear.
